Abstract

The propose of this study is to determine the association of female education and family size. Knowledge about birth control techniques may result in increasing the use of these preventative methods and drop in birthrate. Female education mostly results in increasing the age at first marriage, which as a result reduces the pregnancies, and being more aware of available contraceptive methods helps in reducing the household size. Educated women are expected to marry late and use contraception thus have less number of children. Improving the educational status of women is one very effective instrument for decelerating birth rate in developing nation like Pakistan. Female literacy and awareness about birth control and benefits of small family should be increased systematically, to have an effect on family size.
